Business... The traditional way

It's your business... so watch your step!

Going the traditional route...

OK, so you have an idea or a product and you want to start your business and market your product or service the traditional way? Fine! If I can't convince you to go the "Internet Marketing" route, I will certainly give you my best shot to support so that you don't make a fatal mistake.

Hey, mistakes are neither good nor bad. They are just that, mistakes! Everyone makes mistakes. They are a necessary evil, yet they're a sure sign that the business owner is in action. Allot of people interpret mistakes as a sure sign of failure. They are just too hard on themselves. Of course, I'm not talking about you here... only those other business people right? (grin!). Some of my best friends who have been very successful in business, and I'm talking about people who are consistently making over $100,000 a month in their pocket, have often said; "If you fail long enough in your business, you're going to make allot of money".

The power of habit

You may know me.

I知 your constant business companion.

I知 your greatest helper; I知 your heaviest burden.

I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.

I am at your command.

Half the tasks you do might as well be turned over to me.

I知 able to do them quickly, and I知 able to do them the same way every time if that痴 what you want.

I知 easily managed, all you致e got to do is be firm with me.

Show me exactly how you want it done; after a few lessons I値l do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great men and women; of course, servant of the failures as well.

I致e made all the great individuals who have ever been great.

And I have made all the failures as well.

But I work with all the precision of a marvelous computer with the intelligence of a human being.

You may run me for business profit, or you may run me to ruin; it makes no difference to me.

Take me. Be easy with me and I will destroy your business.

Be firm with me and I値l put the world at your feet.

Who am I? I知 Habit!!

Fatal mistakes

It's when you make that fatal mistake (there are many such mistakes and traps) in traditional business that you're a goner. My job is to spare you and your business and help you prevent making these kind of mistakes. So let's see what these mistakes look like shall we? But before we do however...

STOP - I want to share with you a very funny and inspiring story on focus or more like the absence of it. I got such a good laugh out of it I just had to share it with you. Admittedly, this story did remind me of those times I seemed to be living in a vicious circle. It also reminded me of my fianc馥 (grin). Read on and see if you can read between the lines here. May this passage serve as your first big warning as you move forward with your traditional business. Here goes...

First fatal mistake - The vicious circle in business or busy-ness!

Not that I'm implying anything with this,

however, this does describe many of my days.

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests itself: I decided to wash my car. As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the hall table. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can under the table, and notice that the trash can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the trash first but then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the trash anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the coke a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye-- they need to be watered. I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote.

Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, we will be looking for the remote, but nobody will remember that it's on the kitchen table. So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I splash some water on the flowers, but most of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers aren't watered, there is still only one check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

Could you do me a favor, please?

Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember to whom it has been sent. Don't laugh - if this isn't you yet, your day is coming! And if I have sent this to you before, well, now you know why you're getting it again.

NOTE - I hope you got a good laugh out of reading this short story. I know! Now you're wondering if I'm the one who wrote it. I forget! (chuckle) Now, what were we talking about again? Hmm! (maybe this story is really about me?) Oh yes, I was saying...

Second fatal mistake - Losing your Commitment... to your business!

On Commitment

In Michael Gerber's E-MYTH REVISITED, he explains that most business owners start their business not because they are entrepreneurs; they do this because they have an "entrepreneurial seizure."

But most don't understand or have the heart for what it takes in the long run, so 40% fail in their first year. 80% fail in their first five years and of the 20% that make it five years, 80% percent of THOSE don't make it five years more.

That means when (one hundred) 100 small businesses start, only (four) 4 will be standing ten years later. That in spite of all the money and effort it takes to get a traditional small business up and running. Doesn't it stand to reason that when, in Network Marketing as an example, the cost to start your own business is as low as $399 plus a little training time, that the fall-out cycle might speed up?

Important Fact - It's a little known fact that the Network Marketing business does not have any higher fall-out rates than any other small business starters, it's simply that the cost of entry is so low that the weeding out happens much faster.

There is a silver lining. Gerber teaches, that these failure rates are not necessary. The answer lies in training, building a reliable system to run the business, and (finally) not recruiting anyone who is not truly motivated to work toward a better life.

Third fatal mistake Business owners "Think and Grow Poor"

Some notes from the book "Think and Grow Rich" By Napoleon Hill

It is essential to get and read this book.

  • Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not require failure, will bring riches
  • There are two kinds of knowledge. One is general, the other is specialized. General knowledge, no matter how great in quantity or variety it may be, is of but little use in the accumulation of money. Most professors have but little money. They specialize on teaching knowledge, but they do not specialize on the organization, or the use of knowledge.
  • Specialized knowledge is among the most plentiful, and the cheapest forms of service which may be had. If you doubt this, consult the payroll of any university.
  • If you are one of those who believe that hard work and honesty, alone, will bring riches, perish the thought. It is not true. Riches, when they come in huge quantities are never the result of hard work alone. Riches come, if they come at all, in response to definite demands, based upon the application of definite principles, and not by chance or luck.
  • No follower of this philosophy can reasonably expect to accumulate a fortune without experiencing "temporary defeat". When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal. If you give up before your goal has been reached, you are a quitter. A Quitter never wins-and a winner never quits. Lift this sentence out, write it on a piece of paper in letters an inch high, and place it where you will see it every night before you go to sleep, and every morning before you go to work.

THREE MAJOR REASONS FOR FAILURE

Procrastination: This is one of the most common causes of failure. Old Man Procrastination stands within the shadow of every human being waiting his opportunity to spoil one's chances of success. Most of us go through life as failures, because we are waiting for the time to be right to start doing something worthwhile. Do not wait. The time will never be just right. Start where you stand and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.

Lack of persistence: Most of us are good starters but poor finishers of everything we begin. Moreover, people are prone to give up at the first signs of defeat. There is no substitute for persistence. The person who makes persistence his watch-word, discovers that Old Man Failure finally becomes tired, and makes his departure. Failure cannot cope with persistence.

Lack of a well defined power of decision: Men who succeed reach decisions promptly, and change them, if at all, very slowly. Men who fail to reach decisions, if at all very slowly, and change them frequently, and quickly. Indecision and procrastination are twin brothers. Where one is found, the other may usually be found also. Kill off this pair before they completely hog tie you to the treadmill of failure.

  • The majority of people who fail to accumulate money sufficient for their needs are generally easily influenced by the opinions of others. They permit the newspapers and the gossiping neighbors to do their thinking for them. Opinions are the cheapest commodities on earth. Everyone has a flock of opinions ready to be wished upon anyone who will accept them. If you are influenced by opinions when you reach decisions, you will not succeed in any undertaking, much less in that of transmuting your own desire into money. If you are influenced by the opinions of others, you will have no desire of your own.
  • Definiteness of decision always requires courage, sometimes very great courage. The fifty six men who signed the Declaration of Independence staked their lives on the decision to affix their signatures to that document. The person who reaches a definite decision to procure the particular job, and make life pay the price he asks, does not stake his life on that decision; he stakes his economic freedom. Financial independence, riches, desirable business and professional positions are not within reach of the person who neglects or refuses to expect, plan and demand these things. The person who desires riches in the same spirit that Samuel Adams desired freedom for the colonies is sure to accumulate wealth.
  • The only break anyone can afford to rely upon is a self made break. These come through the application of persistence. The starting point is definiteness of purpose.
  • Examine the first 100 hundred people you meet, ask them what they want most in life, and ninety eight of them will not be able to tell you. If you press them for an answer, some will say-security; many will say-money; a few will say happiness; others will say-fame, and power; and still others will say-social recognition ease in living, ability to sing, dance or write; but none of them will be able to define these terms, or give the slightest indication of a plan by which they hope to attain these vaguely expressed wishes. Riches do not respond to wishes. They respond only to definite plans, backed by definite desires, through constant persistence.
  • Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources or retreat. Only by so doing can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as burning desire to win, essential to success. Every human being who reaches the age of understanding of the purpose of money wishes for it. Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.

SIX WAYS TO TURN DESIRES INTO GOLD!

  1. First fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say I want plenty of money. Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter.)
  2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as something for nothing.)
  3. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
  4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
  5. Write out a clear concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
  6. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. As you read- 'see and feel and believe' yourself already in possession of the money.
